memory

Memory mentioned in GPS receiver specifications usually refers to storage space inside the unit for loading detail maps or points of interest from a personal computer.

Handheld models often have only a few megabytes (MB) of memory, which limits the coverage of detail maps to a relatively small area.

Vehicle navigation systems usually have more memory. Many models have enough to hold detail maps covering all of the United States and Canada.
