A waypoint is a location that you’ve saved in your GPS receiver.
Most GPS receivers allow you to mark any place you want by saving it’s location as a waypoint. Some models allow you to download waypoints from a personal computer.
You might use a waypoint to show the location of your home or to help you remember where you’ve parked your car in a large parking lot. People who use GPS for geocaching enter or load a waypoint and use it to navigate to an unknown destination. Waypoints can also be useful for keeping track of campsites, hunting or fishing locations, and other landmarks.
Similar to waypoints, many GPS receivers also have a built-in points of interest database with locations that are popular to the general public.
